Eric Desjeux, defined as “A mountain of multiple figures” by some, is a multidisciplinary artist, best known as a sound artist, filmmaker, and insatiable traveler. Since birth, he has roamed the planet while listening to the living world, still constantly exploring all continents in pursuit of his various practices, and developing a decentered, exploratory body of work shaped by displacement. A versatile artist, his work operates at the intersection of music, sound art, cinema, and performance, informed by a broad cultural approach. Through this practice, he seeks to reveal the ecstatic and sensitive components of the world—understood as states of perceptual departure—by proposing liminal sensory experiences with a revelatory intent.
Immersed in the image from a very young age, it was quite natural for him to turn to film and audiovisual studies, first at the University of Paris 8 (France) and the University of Montreal (Canada) and then at INSAS in Brussels (Belgium).
As a sound artist, Eric Desjeux compose for films, performing arts, installations and any other mediums involving sound while at the same time performing on stage around the world (East Asia, North America, Europe, West Africa, Australia, Central America, Indonesia, Southeast Asia…...), and has given to date no less than 1000 concerts and public performances. He also collaborated with many other international musicians such as Steve MacKay (The Stooges), Mike Watt (Minutemen, The Stooges), Marshall Allen (Sun-Ra Arkestra), to name a few.
In the field of performing arts Eric Desjeux works for and with various artists such as Pierre Droulers, Jaco Van Dormael, Wim Vandekeybus / Ultima Vez, Kate McIntosh, Ant Hampton, Thomas Hauert, Begüm Erciyas, Juan Dominguez, Vincent Glowinski, Taoufiq Izzediou / Anania, Mohamed Toukabri, Olga De Soto, Norah Krief, Arantxa Martinez, Nadia Lauro, Eduardo Abdala, Julia Rodríguez, Robin Kobrynski, Pierre Vanneste, Jean-François Roversi, Laura Ughetto, Laurence Grun, Vincianne Sestito, in various countries, from Scandinavia to Mexico through most of Western Europe, and was Thierry De Mey's assistant at Charleroi/Danses for several years.
As a filmmaker he directed, filmed and edited several documentaries in West Africa and Western Europe in the frame of projects develloped by the Unesco, Organisation Internationale de la Francophonie, Guinée Culture and more.
In parallel, he documents the world through photography and field recording works.
